The short version
Japan Family Guide contains affiliate links. If you click one and book or buy something, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That is how we keep the site free.
How it works
We are a real family who travelled Japan, and we write about the hotels, tours, and gear we genuinely rate. When we link to a place to stay or a thing to do, that link is often an affiliate link. If you use it to make a booking or a purchase, the partner pays us a small percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid anyway. The commission comes out of the partner’s margin, not your pocket.

A note on the travel insurance page
Travel insurance is a financial product, so we hold that page to a higher bar. Our travel insurance guide links to Tick, an Australian insurer we used ourselves, and that is an affiliate link. Everything we say about their cover is taken from their Product Disclosure Statement rather than their marketing pages, and where those two disagree we publish what the PDS says.
The other insurers named on that page, including the options for travellers from the US, Canada, the UK, New Zealand and Singapore, are not affiliate links. We earn nothing if you use them. They are there because a guide that only mentions the one company paying us would not be much of a guide.
That page is general information, not personal financial advice. Always read the policy documents and consider whether a policy suits your family before buying.
Our promise
The commission never decides what we recommend. We link to things because we used them, researched them, or would happily send our own friends to them. If something was a hassle with kids, we say so, even when there is a commission attached. Honest advice is the entire reason this site exists, and a few dollars of commission is not worth losing your trust over.
